Updated: 7 hours ago

🥇 Four Regional Titles for Chile

Chile has once again been named among the best travel destinations in South America. At the 2026 World Travel Awards, known as the Oscars of Tourism, the country took four regional awards:

  • Adventure tourism: South America's Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, Chile's 12th consecutive win in this category, a nod to everything from the Atacama Desert to the glaciers of Patagonia.

  • Cruise destination: South America's Leading Cruise Destination for the second year in a row, with routes from ports such as Valparaíso to the fjords and glaciers of Chilean Patagonia.

  • Green destination: South America's Leading Green Destination, recognizing the country's national parks, wildlife and approach to responsible travel.

  • Best Tourism Office: won by Sernatur, Chile's National Tourism Service, for the first time.

🏅 A Year of Recognition

The regional wins follow another milestone earlier this year. In March, Chile was named Best International Destination at the first Forbes Travel Awards, held on 17 March 2026 at Forbes House in Madrid. Those awards are chosen by the Forbes Travel editorial committee rather than by public vote or paid entry.

🌍 What Comes Next: The Global Final

The next stage is the global World Travel Awards:

  • Nominations: Chile is nominated in eight global categories, including World's Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, World's Leading Cruise Destination and, for Santiago, World's Leading City Destination.

  • Voting: open to the public until 30 October on the official World Travel Awards website.

  • Final ceremony: scheduled for 12 December in Tanzania.

Chile was named World's Leading Adventure Tourism Destination in 2025, its seventh win of that global title.

🛎️ The Next Step: Experience Chile Privately

From the dunes of the north to the glaciers of the south, Chile's variety keeps earning it recognition. Closer to the capital, Valparaíso is one of the country's main cruise ports, and Santiago and its wine valleys are easy to combine with a coastal day. At Julio Private Tours we plan private days in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, Santiago and the Casablanca wine region around each traveler's interests, with a local guide. Cruise travelers arriving in Valparaíso can also ask us about private shore excursions on request.
